In December 2021, Enphase Energy began shipping its IQ8 microinverters across North America. In the official announcement, the company quoted our owner, William May, about what the new technology meant for the way we install solar.

Enphase came to us for a quote

On December 27, 2021, Enphase Energy announced that it had started production shipments of its IQ8 microinverters for customers across North America. It was a flagship product launch for one of the most respected names in home solar, and when Enphase put out the official announcement, the company included a quote from our own owner and operator, William May.

You can read the full announcement on the Enphase newsroom.

Why that matters

A national manufacturer does not hand its product-launch microphone to just anyone. Enphase chose an installer it trusts to speak about the technology in the field, and it chose us. That kind of recognition is the same reason we hold Enphase Platinum Installer status, the top tier of Enphase certification.

For homeowners, the takeaway is simple. The people designing and installing your system work closely enough with the manufacturer that the manufacturer asks for their perspective.

What the IQ8 actually changed

William's quote points to the real breakthrough. Earlier solar systems needed a battery to do anything useful during a power outage. The IQ8 changed that. It is a grid-forming microinverter, which means it can keep producing power from sunlight during a daytime outage even on a system without a battery.

That flexibility, building a solution "with or without a battery," is exactly what makes IQ8 a good fit for so many Florida homes:

  • One microinverter per panel, so a single shaded or failed panel never drags down the rest of the array.
  • Per-panel monitoring, so we can see how every part of your system is performing.
  • A safer design that keeps high-voltage DC off your roof.
  • An easy path to add an Enphase battery later when you are ready for full storm backup.

We still install Enphase microinverters on nearly every system we build. If you want the details on how panel-level conversion works, see our microinverter page.

The bottom line

Being quoted in an Enphase launch was a proud moment, but the reason it happened is the same reason we show up every day: we know this equipment, we install it ourselves, and we stand behind it.
